Sika roofing membrane innovation started more than half a century ago.

  • 1962, the introduction of the Sarnafil® membrane by company chemists brought the world the first fabric-reinforced thermoplastic membrane – a long-lasting, high performance roofing and waterproofing system.
  • In 1979, Sarnafil® became the first single ply membrane available in
color with the introduction of custom color Sarnafil® PVC membranes and
    acrylic coating.
  • 1980, Sarnafil® was the first to produce PVC membrane with felt.
  • In 1985, Sarnafil® Inc. chaired the first ASTM (American Society for Testing and Materials) standard for PVC.
  • In 1989, Sarnafil® became the first to introduce TPO membrane in
Europe. The first TPO roofing membrane which was installed in 1989, has
been tested and has been proven to perform properly still today.
  • In 1994, Sika became one of the first to start a recycling program for PVC membrane.
  • In 2003, Sika installed its first solar roofing system.

Sika is the worldwide roofing material technology leader in:

  • Single ply membrane (Sika Sarnafil® and Sikaplan® PVC, Sika Sarnafil® TPO/FPO).
  • Liquid applied membrane (SikaRoof® MTC, Sikalastic® and Sikafill®).
