Usage

  • Suitable for bonding high absorption ceramic tiles
  • Suitable for interior floor and wall applications
  • Indoor applications over concrete, cement mortars, bricks (substrates which are not waterproof and morethan 28 days old). For other types of substrates (non-absorbent surfaces, old coatings, polished or very porous concrete, etc.), other products from the SikaCeram® range must be used.

Shelf life

12 months from the date of manufacture if stored correctly in the original undamaged, closed and sealed container in a cool, dry place.

Consumption

The consumption is 3 – 6 kg/m² depending on

▪ The substrate (flatness, roughness)

▪ The tiles type (size, thickness, water absorption, porosity)

▪ Gluing method (simple or double)

EQUIPMENT

SikaCeram®-50 should be mixed mechanically using a mixer or in a clean container using a drill and mixing paddle (<500 rpm). Do not use a concrete mixer.

MIXING

Mix thoroughly with clean water for at least 3 minutes. Let the material rest in the container until most of the bubbles have disappeared (minimum 5 minutes). Then remix the material for 15 seconds - the product is now ready for use.

 

APPLICATION

SikaCeram®-50 is applied using the notched trowel on the support. Choose one trowel that leaves the proper thickness on the back of the tile.

For guidance:

  • For mosaics up to 5x5cm, use a 3 mm notched trowel
  • For normal ceramic tiles, use a 6 mm notched trowel
  • For large ceramic tiles, use a 9 mm notched trowel
  • For ceramic parts larger than 900 cm² or for stringent requirements (tiles to be polished, heavy loads, etc.), the double gluing technique

On small surfaces, apply a uniform coat of the recommended thickness of SikaCeram®-50 evenly. Then, immediately adjust the thickness using the notched trowel. Finally, place the ceramic tile by pressing on to the mortar.

The tile surface in contact with the mortar shall be more than 80%. The Tiles larger than 900 cm² and those with the shape of dovetail must be to be fixed with double gluing.

CLEANING OF EQUIPMENT

Clean all tools and application equipment with water immediately after use. Once the material has hardened/cured, it can only be removed mechanically.
